Outpatient
Positive Step is Rushford's intensive outpatient program designed specifically for adolescents ages 13-17 who are suffering from substance abuse and related psychological and behavioral problems. The goal of the program is to help youth and their families recover from the destructive effects of substance abuse and other behavior-related problems. Positive Step is offered after school in Glastonbury, Middletown and Meriden.
Prior to beginning the Positive Step program, each adolescent receives a comprehensive assessment that covers psychiatric, psychological, medical problems, learning disabilities, family functioning and other aspects of his or her life. A treatment plan is then developed to best meet the young person’s development needs and behavioral changes. Family involvement is an integral component of the treatment process, as extensive research has shown that youth achieve better results when their parents or caregivers are involved.
In addition to intensive outpatient treatment, Positive Step offers outpatient groups for aftercare support and relapse prevention at all locations. Referrals to community resources and follow-up are also provided as needed.
Positive Step is creates a climate of trust between adolescents and therapists, which creates an environment to honestly and openly confront substance abuse issues and develop a relapse prevention plan. The program provides youth the opportunity to gain insight and confidence, express empathy and have hope instilled for their futures
