Intervention Services
Studies has shown that In a given year, the vast majority (90-95%) of active substance abusers do not enter treatment or self-help groups, and (b) substance abusers have frequent contact with their families (60-80% either live with a parent or are in daily contact. An intervention is a process where family, friends and/or co-workers confront an individual about destructive behavior involving drugs or alcohol. Intervention services are the best way to make help available to those struggling with an addiction.
Intervention Process The ultimate goal of an intervention is for the person to begin receiving treatment for their addiction. An intervention usually works best when it is thoroughly planned and guided by a trained therapist or counselor. Interventions by concerned family or friends of the self-destructive person often do not work because there is no plan for the person to immediately begin treatment. The presence of a therapist skilled in intervention techniques also helps prepare people prior to the intervention to remain calm, especially if the person being confronted becomes angry or extremely upset.
